About
The objects of The Sri Lanka IP Association - Sri Lanka Group of AIPPI:
a) to further the work and objects of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property and in particular and without limitation to the generality of the foregoing the following:
- i. To promote the understanding of the necessity at both the national and international level for intellectual property protection in the broadest sense as well as the repression of unfair competition, and to encourage further development of the protection of intellectual property;
- ii. to study and compare existing laws and proposed new laws, to propose improvements to them and to promote their harmonization;
- iii.to work for the development, expansion and improvement of international conventions and agreements concerning the protection of intellectual property;
b) to obtain recognition of the necessity for international co-ordination in all matters relating to all aspects of intellectual property including without limitation patents, industrial designs, trademarks, trade names, copyrights and other analogous rights, unfair competition and passing off, geographical indications and appellations of origin and traditional knowledge;
c) to discuss, examine, initiate and evaluate proposals, laws, measures or other matters relating to the protection of all forms of intellectual property as aforesaid, unfair competition and passing off, geographical indications, appellations or origin traditional knowledge and connected rights and issues;
d) to facilitate the dissemination to members of the Association and to the public of knowledge of the law and practice relating to industrial and intellectual property, unfair competition and passing off, geographical indications, appellations of origin, traditional knowledge and connected rights and issues and concerning the protection of such property in Sri Lanka and elsewhere by conducting and organizing or co-organizing conferences, seminars, lectures, training programmes, discussions, correspondence, pamphlets, dissemination of information or otherwise.
e) to encourage the development of the law and practice relating to industrial and intellectual property and its protection and the efficient administration of such law and practice in order to promote the development of the manufacturing, technological, scientific and industrial resources of Sri Lanka.
f) to engage in activities in conjunction with legally registered bodies or associations within the limits of the Association's objects and to arrange reciprocal concessions and co-operation with other such bodies or associations;
g) to seek affiliation with regional or international bodies with similar objects and to participate in the activities or such regional or international bodies;
h) to do all such other lawful things as are incidental to the attainment of the above mentioned purposes or any one or more of them.
